GOOG CEO departs from AAPL Board

Google Inc. Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt is resigning from Apple Inc.’s board, aiming to quell antitrust concerns about intensifying competition between the two companies.

Schmidt’s effectiveness as a director is “significantly diminished” as he needs to recuse himself from meetings because of potential conflicts of interest, Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a company statement today. The resignation was a mutual decision, Jobs said.

People must have seen it coming.  Google helped create Android, a software that runs on mobile phones and a possibly strong competitor of Apple’s iPhone later on.  Then Apple last week rejected Google Voice, which allows users to make free phone calls (yes, just like Skype).  But there IS a Skype app for iPhone, isn’t there? Interesting.
